Jefferson Lopez- a young and gifted athlete who is a next level surfer
paving the way to change the perception of the surf in Central America. He’s also a member of the Nicaraguan National Surf Team!
Jefferson has been surfing since a young age of 4 years old. Growing up in Popoyo as a local in a small surfing and fishing village on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua, he quickly developed a love for surf and realized his talent for the sport. Surrounded by some of the best surf waves in the country, Jefferson was able to spend endless hours practicing and developing his skills that are next level to watch. He has a bold and unique style that cannot be compared to any other. Besides surfing Jefferson teaches surf lessons with his family surf school to save money for training and competitions. He is also in school learning to speak English so he can communicate effectively on a global level.
Jefferson’s accomplishments include a 3-time National Jr Champion, 2nd in the Jr Central American Games and ranked #1 Junior Surfer in the country. Jefferson turned 18 in December and has moved into the Open Category. He has yet again qualified to represent Nicaragua on the National Surf Team. Recently he competed in the 2023 PanAmerican Games and for the first time in Nicaraguan history he has qualified for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. This event is a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
